In a former school building with generous 3.4-meter-high ceilings, we designed and built a custom interior that responds to the building’s quiet monumentality and rhythm. The tall rooms and deep window reveals provided a strong architectural framework—one that called for a solution both understated and precise.
Birch plywood became the defining material throughout the project. Its subtle grain and warm tone bring softness to the robust shell of the old structure. Flush-mounted doors and carefully aligned panels emphasize clarity and proportion, allowing the natural character of the ply—especially its layered edges—to become a quiet but deliberate detail.
To engage with the full height of the space, we integrated a custom library ladder that not only serves the upper storage but extends seamlessly into the hallway. This gesture transforms a functional element into a spatial connector, linking rooms while accentuating the verticality of the interior. The result is a continuous architectural language—calm, tactile, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship.
